Geelong lost to Hawthorn in the 2008 AFL Grand Final at the MCG. V/Line specials for Geelong Cats fans included many push-pull P class operated trains, and a special headboard for grand final day.

The Seymour Railway Heritage Centre ran the "Hills to the Bay" tour from Seymour to Geelong via Southern Cross and return. V/Line locomotive N463 was hired to lead the trip due to (now fixed) signalling issues on the Geelong line preventing heritage diesels being used.

V/Line's P18 was the loco with a mix of steel and wooden carriages. The hired loco was used because of signalling issues on the Geelong line preventing any non-TPWS fitted locomotives from using the line while normal passenger services were also running

Geelong private carriages

South Geelong has a collection of carriages privately owned by a ground called 'Rail Experience' located at the down end of the station. In 2007 carriage BS203 was removed by road, with the rest of the carriages moved to Newport Workshops in 2012 to make room for an expanded car park at the station.

A collection of photos of the special trains that ran to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Geelong - Melbourne Railway. Locomotives included R761, R707, D3 658 and diesel T356.

Every so often the New South Wales Rail Transport Museum runs their heritage trains across the border and into 'Mexico' - this time 4201 and 4520 lead their Southern Auroa set through Melbourne to Ararat.

In April 2007 the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre ran their blue train consist from Seymour via Melbourne and Geelong to Warrnambool and return. The locomotives were T357 and T320.

Every two years the Avalon Airshow is held outside Lara, with V/Line operating special trains between Melbourne, Geelong and Lara. Push-pull N classes on 8 car trains feature heavily.

On the 4th of March 2006 the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre ran the "Hills to the Bay" tour from Seymour to Geelong and return, with a side trip to Melbourne from Geelong. The train consisted of locomotive T357 leading T320, AE, BE, and ABE cars, BS1, the Avoca dining car, State Car No. 4, and Yarra Parlor car.

S302 was bought by West Coast Railway soon after they were formed, and ran with them for a number of years. After their demise it was purchased by V/Line, who continued to use it on the midday Warrnambool train, where it was often replaced by an N class. S302 made her last run on January 13, 2006 after which it was put into storage. It was subsequently sold to El Zorro who operate it today
