The AK cars are a set of three specially equipped ex-NSWGR carriages fitted out for track inspection and testing purposes. They are operated by the Australian Rail Track Corporation over their standard gauge lines behind hired motive power on a regular basis

EM100 is a track evaluation vehicle, that traverses the Victorian railway network to test track quality. Diesel powered it has both standard and broad gauge bogies.

Converted from carriage MTH102 by SSR Bendigo in 2010, as of March 2011 this inspection carriage has been used to check up of the status of the overhead wiring along Melbourne's suburban railway network.

Metro Trains Melbourne works trains

Since taking over the contract to operate Melbourne's rail network, Metro Trains Melbourne have started to run their own dedicated works trains, using wagons and locomotives hired from CFCLA. There are 3 sets of wagons:
- Open top containers mounted to miscellaneous flat wagons, for the carriage of spoil.
- CHOY ballast hoppers fitted with lighting, along with a generator set wagon.
- Container wagons, fitted with stanchions allowing them to carry rail, they have also been loaded up with concrete sleepers. The rail threader wagon tags along at one end of the consist.

During the Southern Cross Station redevelopment works short trains operated between the station and the Creek Sidings at North Melbourne, carrying spoil, asphalt, and other materials. CFCLA and SSR T classes were the usual motive power
