In 2012 antennas were fitted to two Alstom Comeng trains to trial a Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) based level crossing warning device on the Frankston line, as part of a project by the Centre for Technology Infusion at La Trobe University: https://www.latrobe.edu.au/technology-infusion/innovation/transport/improving-safety-at-level-crossings
