Melbourne tram depots

Trams on the Melbourne network are based out of eight depots: Brunswick, Camberwell, Essendon, Glenhuntly, Kew, Malvern, Preston and Southbank. Additional storage is available at the former North Fitzroy and Hawthorn depots, as well as the Preston Workshops.

Brunswick Depot

Camberwell Depot in Hawthorn East supplies trams to route 70 and 75.

East Preston Depot

East Preston Depot on Plenty Road, East Preston once supplied trams to routes 11 and 86. It was replaced by the 'New' Preston Depot in April 2016, with the site now used for refurbishing trams.

Essendon Depot

Kew Depot

Kew Depot on at the corner of Barkers Road and High Street, Kew supplies trams to route 48, 78 and 109.

Maidstone tram maintenance and stabling facility

In 2023 work started on a new tram depot on Hampstead Road, Maidstone as part of the Next Generation Trams project.

Malvern Depot

Malvern Depot off Glenferrie Road in Armadale supplies trams to routes 5, 6, 16, 58 and 72.

North Fitzroy Depot

North Fitzroy Depot on Nicholson Street, North Fitzroy closed in 1993, but reopened in 2008-2012 to stable W class trams used on the City Circle while Southbank depot was undergoing refurbishment.

Preston Workshops and New Preston Depot

Preston Workshops at the corner of St George's Road and Miller Street it was once the main workshops for the M&MTB, but following privatisation in the 1990s it became a dumping ground for W class trams. In 2016 it was reborn as 'New Preston Depot' - a running depot for the new E class fleet, replacing East Preston depot to supply trams for route 11 and 86.

South Melbourne Depot

South Melbourne Depot was located on the corner of Kings Way and Dorcas Street in South Melbourne. It was replaced by Southbank Depot in 1997.

Southbank Depot

Southbank Tram Depot located on the Port Melbourne light rail line supplies trams to route 12, 30, 35 and 96.
