Melbourne tramway traction substations

As of 2009 there were 41 traction substations scattered around Melbourne, converting the AC mains power to the 600 V DC required by trams. (a different source in 2008 put it as 46)

Built during in WW2 amongst the munitions factories, the substation was camouflaged at the bottom of an abandoned quarry to avoid it being targeted by air strikes
