V/Line - UCI bike specials 2010

October 03, 2010

Over the weekend of October 2 and 3 V/Line ran a huge number of extra trains between Geelong and Melbourne for the 2010 UCI Road World Championships. The event turned out to be a bit of a fizzer: trains were still running every 10 minutes at peak times, but only 4 of the 6 originally scheduled push-pull sets ran (three with P classes, and one with N classes). The traffic disruptions in Geelong were so bad, the next person to propose Geelong hold an event like this will get tomatoes thrown at them in the Market Square Mall.

The Albion-Jacana railway line links the Bendigo line near Sunshine to the main North-East line near Broadmeadows via a slow and indirect route.
