Sorrento steam tramway

Opened in 1890 to serve the tourist market in Sorrento, this double track 3'6" (1067mm) narrow gauge tramway lead from the main pier beside the front beach, to a terminus one mile 12 chains away at the back beach. Two 0-4-0ST steam locomotives provided the service, which operated until 1921.

Southern Cross Station storm damage, 2010

On March 7, 2010 a storm hit Melbourne with severe wind gusts and hailstones up to 10 centimetres wide. Rail and hail ripped large holes in the roof of Southern Cross Station, leading to its evacuation and forcing metropolitan and country trains to bypass the station. Repair work on was estimated to cost $5 million, with 43 of the 60 air pillows needing replacement, work commencing in April 2010 and lasting 12 to 14 weeks.

On 13 October 2018 the Level Crossing Removal Authority chartered a train from the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre as part of the 'Corridor Carnival' to celebrate the completion of the Caulfield - Dandenong level crossing removal project. B74 and X31 run the train push pull, which also featured observation car 'Yarra'.
