An Armaguard crew drove into the Bourke Street Mall then had their armoured van break down. Eventually a massive tilt tray truck arrived, delaying trams for five minutes while it was lifted onto the back.

Aurizon commenced operating standard gauge freight services across Australia when precescessor Queensland Rail purchased Interail in 2002, CRT Group in 2005, and Australian Railroad Group in 2006. QR National was rebranded as Aurizon in December 2012. The company withdrew their Melbourne-Brisbane and Melbourne-Perth services in December 2017.

Automatic rail lubricators

Automatic rail lubricators are used to apply grease to the running rails, avoiding wheel wear on sharp curves. Traditionally mechanical 'grease pots' were used for this purpose, but require frequent maintenance and apply grease in an inaccurate manner. Modern replacements are powered units, which use trackside sensors to pump out grease only when required.

B64 transfer by road to South Dynon

B64 was stored for a number of years at Ballarat East for / by Steamrail Victoria. In 2008 it was purchased by El Zorro and moved to Avteq to be rebuilt and recommissioned. For an unknown reason it was moved to the old FCL shed at South Dynon by road, coincidentally this shed has a number of container-mounted gensets with the El Zorro name on them. Two new ZDXF type container flats were also moved here and placed on the ground minus bogies.

Ballarat broad gauge freight

Until 2008 freight trains actually stopped at Ballarat - container wagons loaded and unloaded in the goods yard at Ballarat then attached onto the Pacific National service that ran between Mildura and Melbourne, and grain trains from Dunolly served the Bunge grain silos at Ballarat North.

Ballarat Line Upgrade consolidation trains

As part of the Ballarat Line Upgrade works that have duplicated the railway between between Caroline Springs and Melton, on 27 November 2019 a pair of heavy freight trains ran across the newly commissioned track for 24 hours, consolidating the recently laid ballast before normal services commenced on the line.
Qube's train was made up of B76, T373 and T376 push-pull with G512, container wagons from the Maryvale service, and cement tanktainers from the Dandenong service. Southern Shorthaul Railroad's train was made up of B75, S312, P17 and P18 push-pull with S302 and S317 on the Kensington grain consist.

Bayside Rail Project

In May 2013 Premier Denis Napthine announced the $100 million 'Bayside Rail Project' to upgrade the Frankston railway line, and bring X'Trapolis trains to the route. Two token services run by X'Trapolis trains being introduced just before the 2014 State Election, with the cost of the project blowing out to $115 million.

Blackburn rail replacement buses

Buses replaced Belgrave and Lilydale line trains throughout 2016 and 2017, to allow work to be completed on the Blackburn Road level crossing removal project. Trains terminated at Blackburn platform 2, with a temporary bridge delivering passengers to the replacement buses.
