Flinders Street Station upgrade

In February 2015, the State Government announced a $100 million investment to repair the exterior of the station’s administration building as well as improve access and facilities for commuters. Work started in late 2015 and is due for completion in 2018.

707 Operation - 'Redwood Rattler Tour' August 2017

707 Operations ran their 'Redwood Rattler Tour' from Melbourne to Maryborough and return via Bacchus Marsh on August 06, 2017. The train was led by T413 and P14, a replacement for a failed H5, carriages included PCP294, ACZ255, BZ270, BS205, BRS224, BK708, and 'Victoria' Club Car 1.

On June 24, 2009 the power van allocated to an A class hauled down South Geelong service failed, so spare locomotive P16 was attached to the train to provide a replacement head end power supply to the carriages.

On Friday 21 July through Sunday 23 July 707 Operations run their 'Farewell to Murrayville' tour from Melbourne to Murrayville and return, as a a farewell tour to the broad gauge Ouyen to Murrayville branch line. T413 and H3 led the train made up of a mix of Victorian, NSW and South Australian joint stock sleeping carriages: PCP294, ACZ255, BRS224, SJ282, SJ284, Club Car Victoria, dining car Avoca, NAM2336, LAN2354, BK708 and VAM1.

On July 16, 2017 707 Operations ran their 'Best of British' tour around the Melbourne suburbs, visiting Aircraft, the Newport-Sunshine goods lines, Caroline Springs, West Tower and the reversing loop, with diesel shunter F208 and mainline steam locomotive R707 running push pull.

CBD and South East Light Rail construction

The CBD and South East Light Rail is a new light rail network for Sydney, currently under construction. The 12km route will feature 19 stops, extending from Circular Quay along George Street to Central Station, through Surry Hills to Moore Park, then to Kensington and Kingsford via Anzac Parade and Randwick via Alison Road and High Street.

Spencer Street Station pedestrian subways

Until the 2005 redevelopment as Southern Cross Station, passengers at Spencer Street Station used a pedestrian subway to access the platforms, as well as to pass under Spencer Street.

Every Anzac Day special tram services on routes 57, 59 and 19 from the northern suburbs run to the Shine of Remembrance on St Kilda Road via the little used section of track on Victoria Street between Elizabeth and Swanston Streets. In addition, routes 3a, 64 & 67 from the southern suburbs are diverted via Park Street, Kings Way and William Street to the Dudley Street sidings, due to the closure of St Kilda Road and Swanston Street.

NSW TrainLink operates intercity electric services approximately 200 kilometres from Sydney, bounded by Dungog in the north. Scone in the north-west, Bathurst to the west, Goulburn in the south-west and Bomaderry to the south. Before the 2013 restructure of RailCorp, these services fell under the CityRail brand.

V/Line - Pacific National rescue failed a Warrnambool service, August 2006

On the morning of August 02, 2006 N452 failed at Warrnambool when it was supposed to lead the up morning service, so A81 was pulled off the freight and used to rescue the train. A79 was then sent back to Warrnambool to bring the freight back that night.

Gauge converting PHAY wagons

In December 2016 Qube Logistics obtained a number of PHAY hopper wagons from South Australia for use on the Apex quarry train in Victoria. Originally running on standard gauge, bogies from TQXF container wagons and WGSY grain hoppers were used to convert them to broad gauge. Additional wagons arrived in February 2017.
