The flour mill Kensington at Kensington is one of the last to be rail served in Victoria, grain hoppers are taken there on a regular basis, requiring a convoluted route through the suburban and freight lines, with a reversal in Melbourne Yard. Until November 2017 this service was operated by Pacific National.

In October 2015 Southern Shorthaul Railroad overhauled a rake of BGGX/BGGY grain hoppers at their Bendigo Workshops and transported them by road to Benalla, were they were placed on standard gauge for the trip north to NSW.

In April 2011 QR National diesel locomotives LZ3101, LQ3122, DC2206, LZ3103 and 45 AGWF grain hoppers were transferred via Melbourne from Western Australia to New South Wales to begin a new grain contract.
