Authorised Officers check tickets on Melbourne's train, tram and bus networks. V/Line has also started to employ them, despite having conductors onboard trains to do the same thing.

Sydney uses a disparate collection of ticketing systems to collect fare on public transport: uses magstripe tickets, the multi-modal MyZone system covers much of the network, but each mode also issue their own tickets. T-Card was the first attempt at replacing it was a Smartcard system but failed, with the Opal system currently being introduced.
Prodata ticketing equipment on the Bucharest Metro

In the capital of Romania, the Bucharest Metro uses a ticketing system very similar to Metcard, the equipment having been supplied by Prodata - the same company that supplied validators to Melbourne. Magstripe tickets are used for single trips, with smartcards for regular travellers, and the recent introduction of payment via credit card using the contactless Paywave/Paypass technologies
