Melbourne railway traction substations

Scattered around Melbourne's suburban railway network, 68 traction substations convert 22,000V AC power supplied by electricity companies to the 1500V DC used by trains. The extension of suburban trains to South Morang and Sunbury will add four more. (a different source put the number in 2008 at 67 substations and 23 tie stations)
Metro Tunnel intake substation

The Metro Tunnel intake substation at North Melbourne will convert 66kV and 22kV high voltage power to lower voltages for transmission to services inside the tunnel.
Melbourne tramway traction substations

As of 2009 there were 41 traction substations scattered around Melbourne, converting the AC mains power to the 600 V DC required by trams. (a different source in 2008 put it as 46)

Scattered around Sydney's railway network, traction substations convert 33kV AC power supplied by electricity companies to the 1500V DC used by trains.
Disused substations on the Gippsland line
The Gippsland line was electrified by the Victorian Railways in 1954. The overhead was cut back to Warragul in 1987, Bunyip in 1998, before truncated beyond Pakenham in 2001.
