Yarra Trams - Anzac Day diversions

Every Anzac Day special tram services on routes 57, 59 and 19 from the northern suburbs run to the Shine of Remembrance on St Kilda Road via the little used section of track on Victoria Street between Elizabeth and Swanston Streets. In addition, routes 3a, 64 & 67 from the southern suburbs are diverted via Park Street, Kings Way and William Street to the Dudley Street sidings, due to the closure of St Kilda Road and Swanston Street.

Kew Depot centenary

Kew Depot celebrated its centenary on 3 May 2015. W2.431 was on display after being transported by road from the Melbourne Tram Museum at Hawthorn Depot, with W8.946 running shuttle trips to Victoria Gardens, restaurant tram SW6.935 was open for morning tea, with E.6005, C.3031 and A2.283 on display.

In 2011 retired tram SW6.969 was converted into a bar and setup at the Arts Centre in Melbourne, being removed a number of times, only to return again come summer. In February 2013 it appeared again as 'Tram Bar', which closed for good in January 2015.

In February 2014 the tram tracks through Royal Park were used as a temporary stabling location while Essendon Depot was unavailable due to trackwork on Mount Alexander Road. As a result route 55 trams were replaced by buses

E class tram first day in service

The first new E class trams entered service on Monday 4 November 2013, with E.6001 and E.6002 running on route 96.

On 21 October 2013 Z3.212 failed somewhere, so classmate Z3.126 was sent out on a rescue mission to drag the tram home to Essendon Depot.

Southbound Z2.101 was trying to turn from Swanston into La Trobe Street, blocked by a northbound tram across the intersection, with more northbound trams blocked by a tram shunting through the crossover, which couldn't move because of the tram stuck behind the turning Z2.101!

South Melbourne Depot

South Melbourne Depot was located on the corner of Kings Way and Dorcas Street in South Melbourne. It was replaced by Southbank Depot in 1997.

The driver of a southbound ute managed to crash into the 'safety zone' fence on William Street at Bourke Street, destroying it. Thankfully no passengers were there waiting for a tram!

Malvern tram depot centenary

Malvern Depot celebrated its centenary on 30 May 2010 when it hosted a function to commemorate the opening of the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust on 30 May 1910. Former P&MTT trams 44 and 84 were brought from Bendigo for the occasion with 44 running several special trips between the depot and Dandenong Road.
