Occasionally V/Line has motive power shortages or failures, and need to hire locomotives from other operators for use on their own trains. In the photos here it is Freight Australia / Pacific National as the hirer

V/Line in South Australia

December 04, 2011

Yes, V/Line does run into South Australia (well, buses not trains, but that is beside the point)

V/Line locomotives

The V/Line locomotive fleet includes the large N and A class mainline units, smaller P class units, and four Y class for shunting

V/Line rail replacement buses

V/Line has a habit of stuffing things up and needing to call in the buses to get commuters home. (They have an even worse habit of cancelling trains to free up drivers to run football specials, putting the commuters onto buses)

V/Line special carriages

August 09, 2007

V/Line once had a special fleet of carriages that could be hired out and attached to ordinary services, including Club Car Victoria and Parlor Car Norman. Carriages managed by heritage operators have also appeared on special trains. In recent years these cars have been stored or passed to heritage operators and the carriages have appeared less frequently

V/Line to Bacchus Marsh

Photos of the V/Line services that run to Bacchus Marsh, taken between there and the end of the wires back at Sunshine. As well as boring old VLocities and Sprinters, loco hauled trains with A, P and N classes are also used in peak times.

V/Line via the Albion-Jacana goods line

October 10, 2010

The Albion-Jacana railway line links the Bendigo line near Sunshine to the main North-East line near Broadmeadows via a slow and indirect route. Normally used by freight services, V/Line occasionally diverts Seymour and Shepparton services via the route when the normal route via Essendon is blocked.

V/Line via the Brooklyn goods lines

January 06, 2017

On 24 October 2007, the normal route for trains through Yarraville was closed due to a fatality. The down Geelong train I was travelling on was diverted via the freight lines, through the Bunbury Street tunnel, Tottenham Yard, Brooklyn, and the back of Newport.
